Was the testing crash that big of a deal for him or has he realized he'll never win another championship?

Going with the "never win another F1 WDC" option

who cares? Screw that guy - make room for better talent

He wasn't 100% on doing this season from what I've heard. May have just lost his passion for the sport.

There was nothing in the article to indicate that he was retiring after this season.

He isn't retiring after this one season, its after he is done with Mclaren. Rumor is he signed a multi-year contract so he will be in next year and maybe the year after as well as maybe another if he extends his contract. He just wont be joining a new team in F1.

Two-time world champion Fernando Alonso says McLaren will be his final team in Formula 1 before he retires from the sport.

It says he may retire after his contract with McLaren is up. He could have a 3+ year contract with them.

Whattttt?!? Alonso is one of the best drivers on the grid. I understand that he's retiring, and he's a reasonable age to do so in F1, but I dont think he'll be replaced any time soon with "better talent". Maybe newer talent, but nit necessarily better.

Dude... what you wrote here is not true at all. He did not say this season, he said McLaren will be his last team.

As someone else pointed out, it isn't necessarily the end of this year. It's whenever he's done with McLaren, which is totally reasonable. I surprising retiremeent would be someone like Vettel, but Alonso has been in the sport for quite some time, and the idea of him making another team switch after McLaren (and thus adding at least 2 more years to his career) just doesn't make sense.

The contract is for more than one year.

He says McLaren is his last team... and it is believed that he has a multi-year contract with them.

Yeah I got ahead of myself. I'm trying to edit the post but Kinja is being Kinja.

meh, I always just thought he was an asshole and his driving is good, but not in the leagues of great like he thinks he is. I mean he did win the championship twice, but still

I seem to be reading a lot about Kinja and trouble posting, replying and editing. I'm kind new to the community, has this been the norm?

It happens occasionally. The problem I've had lately is Kinja logs me out and doesn't allow me to log back in. After a few minutes it goes back to normal.

Sounds about right. But hey, shiny new buttons!

I do not agree with anyone about him being "arguably, the best driver on the grid" I feel like if he truly were the best he would be performing as the best and at not making excuses about the car.

it's funny

brake checking little bitch. I think my biggest gripe was Massa getting those team orders how many years ago. "Alonso is faster - do you copy"?
Yeah it happens all the time but I just think he is a dirty, whiny little bitch - to your point

it's funny that you say that about Alonso, because I sort of feel the same about Hamilton... It seems like most people who are Hamilton fans feel that way about Alonso, and vice versa. Hamilton is undoubtedly a good driver, but he seems way too full of himself these days (although back in 2008 he seemed reasonably cool) and he can be a real dick over the radio sometimes, which bothers me a little bit.
![]() 04/09/2015 at 10:37 |

ha I feel the same way about Hamilton too.
Maybe I have always felt for Massa, who is my new go to driver. I have been hunting around for one since Kubica/BMW and I finally found a driver who I always liked. And Massa was biting on Alonsos shit for a long time before he got those team orders
I also think Piquets crash was a bunch of bullshit whether he knew about it or not.

Yeah, I really like Massa too. Really Williams as a whole, actually. Massa and Bottas are really likeable, and I don't think anyone out there has the heart to say no to a team making a badass comeback after years in the shitter.

lol, that's Kinja for you! Hahaha
![]() 04/09/2015 at 10:43 |

yeah Massa is looking at a few podiums this year though he has been reliably around 4th all season so far! We'll see what goes down when we start getting into the Euro circuits, but Mercedes is looking just ridiculously fast.
Gawd I wish Kubica had made a comeback too. But it gives me even more reason to watch WRC

Fair enough. You just about gave me a heart attack when I read the headline.

Remember how Senna was a very mild-mannered off track individual? Well at least until he put a hurtin' on McLaren and then joined the team alongside Prost. During the Prost years, Ayrton became as outspoken and verbally aggressive off-track as his driving was on race weekend. I like Seb, Ham, and Red Bull for one big reason and I am ashamed to admit it due to my youthful nature to cease liking something as soon as it becomes wildly popular: I want F1 to succeed and continue to grow into the role of the pinnacle of auto-sport.
